Special Gepiu
Report – Celebrations on May 1st 2010
“The
question for each man to settle is not what he would do if he had
means, time, influence and educational advantages; the question is
what he will do with the things he has. The moment a young man
ceases to dream or to bemoan his lack of opportunities and
resolutely looks his conditions in the face, and resolves to change
them, he lays the corner stone of a solid and honourable success.”

One
our goals for the youth in Gepiu is that they can look beyond their
limited conditions and be able to dream, and to dream big.
This
may seam such a common thing for many but these teenagers saw their
parents making plans, dreaming things that never become true, they
held on to promises that were never fulfilled. So many of them don’t
even dare to dream, maybe because they don’t know how to, or because
they saw just failure, broken relationships, unhappiness, lack of
opportunities, unfulfillment, disappointment and marginalisation.
Going to the
‘Festival of Joy’ on May 1st was a dream, a dream that came true for
the Youth of Gepiu. A chance for them to start dreaming again, to
hope and to dare to fight again, for what they never allowed
themselves to hope for.
At the Festival
they had the opportunity to hear God’s Word, Worship, meet young
people from other parts of Bihor County and play different sports.
At the ‘championship’ that was organized we had two teams that
competed and our boy’s team won first prize in football!
Well done boys!!!
Here are some testimonies: |

“I liked everything: the
songs, the message, the games, it was such a surprise. I loved that
we had all the field for us, I liked being among friends.”
Denisa Serban
“I
had been in other trips for May 1st, but this time was
different, special, I liked it very much. I had never dreamed that I
could go. The songs, the message, the games were great. I played in
the girls football team and I was so glad that the others cheered
for us, for me, it made me feel really good knowing that they care.
I liked that all of us had similar t-shirts; being so many it was
easy for me to recognise my own.”
- Giulia Criste
“One of the
things I liked was that we could meet other people; I liked the
group from Salonta. I liked the place, the food, the games,
especially the football game for girls. We had the best team, though
we lost, all wearing the same t-shirt, I liked that.”
– Florentina Nechifor
“ Beside
the message, the songs, and the games, I
liked the atmosphere, the dedication of the
organisers, and most of all I was happy because we won the
championship at football.”
- Lica Cralic
“I liked
everything but most off all I liked that we were all dressed the
same, (all in Smiles T Shirts) it made me feel like I belonged, it
made me feel special. I like being among people, and at the Festival
there were a lot of people, I felt safe and proud seeing in the
crowd, a Smiles T-shirt.”

“Talking about dreams..., I was dreaming for a long time now to have
the opportunity and the resources to take these fantastic teenagers
for a day out with other young Christians. For me, the most
important thing about this day was that youth, who in the past
wanted to come to the centre but didn’t have the courage to come
because they were not believers, yet they came to this Christian
Festival. For them it was a time when they realised we, young
Christians can have fun without getting drunk or consuming drugs. My
prayer now is that God will use this day and make it the day when
many of them heard the Gospel and start thinking about their eternal
life. Please join me in this prayer.”

So
being able to go to this Festival was a small, but significant step
in bringing hope and joy for these young people, a step that will
encourage them to see beyond their limited conditions.
I want to thank those who made this trip possible by giving from
their time and resources. Special thanks to our Chief Executive
Kevin who made this dream become reality. Thank you!!!
