May 2010
from Greg
Hello, Friends.
As
spring is now in full bloom here in the
Mid-Atlantic region of the US, the schedule of conferences and
festivals is in full force. Richmond is a very busy place when
it comes to conferences and festivals. It is also a city with a
significant community of non-profits. This past month, I have taken
a number of opportunities to participate in festivals and
conferences related to non-profits. I am focused on increasing the
awareness of the Smiles
Foundation among the
non-profit community here in Richmond and learning how other
non-profits are having success in the areas of development and
support. Furthermore, some non-profits exist to serve and support
other non-profits and I am striving to find any opportunities that
may exist along those lines to benefit Smiles.
As it relates to development for Smiles, there are always
challenges.
With so many local non-profits in Richmond and domestic
non-profits
in the US, it can be difficult to get folks to focus on
a foundation that is making a tremendous impact as far away as
Romania. This month, I have run across literally hundreds of
non-profits and have met just one who is doing all of their work
abroad with their development and support work in the US.
A consistent theme that I am hearing still is that financial giving
is down across the board. In light of that fact,
I must say thank you so much as
you continue to give and support Smiles.
Our faithful and generous supporters
have enabled us to continue reaching out to the people of Romania in
more ways than ever before in spite of the global economic crisis.
So, thank you.
Also, I must say thank you to the men’s ministry at
Wellborne United Methodist Church
here in Richmond. I had
the honor of spending some time with them this past week and the
opportunity to present the work of Smiles to them and enjoyed a
question and answer session. I really appreciate the opportunity and
had a great time with all of you.

Now, I know that there are many
people who read this report on a monthly basis and have generously
contributed to Smiles along the way, whether it be during a capital
campaign or when the choir made a stop in your town.
Let me ask you to prayerfully
consider becoming a monthly supporter of Smiles.
You can support our
100
Love club
helping us show love to the people of Romania, many of whom never
felt love before The Smiles Foundation came along. You can support
our
200
Hope Club
helping us give hope to
the hopeless. Or you can support our
400
Faith Club
helping us share faith with the
families we serve. The link to our webpage detailing the clubs is
here:
http://www.thesmilesfoundation.org/projects/projects.html.
I can’t stress enough how important our monthly supporters are to
the work that we are doing in Romania. For those of you who are
already supporting us monthly, again, I say thank you so much.
Also, if you have any questions at
all,
please
do not hesitate to contact me.
All My Best,
Greg Willis
